Employee Spotlight: Chuy Ramirez
Seeking a fresh start with a new professional opportunity, Jesus “Chuy” Ramirez left the sunny stomping grounds of California for the Midwest in 2013 where he first set foot inside the Dot Foods Mt. Sterling warehouse.
His new role as material handler proved to be the perfect fit. Chuy’s can-do work ethic and infectiously upbeat personality made him a favorite amongst his warehouse colleagues. Always willing to lend a helping hand or provide support and assistance to a less experienced warehouse hire, Chuy earned a reputation as someone his team could count on.
His drive, attitude, and constant willingness to help others helped land him a position as a warehouse trainer after just two years as a material handler. By his fifth work anniversary, he had been elevated to process control lead where the safety of his colleagues is his number one priority.
“I’m in charge of safety and making sure everyone’s doing what they need to be doing, following the process,” he said. “Anything with safety, that’s my responsibility.”
And it’s a responsibility he doesn’t take lightly. Every morning, following a cup of coffee and some email catchup, Chuy heads out onto the warehouse floor to make sure everything is in its place and the space is as safe as possible for his team.
What I like about my job is I get to come to work every day and help people go home safe,” he said. “I try to make sure everyone is happy with their job and everyone feels included.”
Recently, Chuy had the itch to return to the classroom to learn even more about the industry and prepare himself for the next stage in his professional career. Through a local community college, and Dot’s tuition reimbursement benefits, Chuy is pursuing an associates degree in industrial automation–a program that will give him a leg up in a growing field within the Mt. Sterling warehouse.
“I’m hoping to get my foot in the door to get the experience and knowledge to better myself in that field and eventually keep going up,” he said.
Chuy is proud to be part of the Dot Foods community and is excited for the next steps as they arise. He credits the people he works with as his motivation to work hard and keep smiling every day.
“What keeps me working here is the employees, the managers, and all the people. I couldn’t ask for a better place to work than Dot Foods.
